An Introduction to our Parish

WELCOME
We welcome you to this brief introduction to our parish.  Some of you who read this may be newcomers to our community; others may be long-established church members.  Whoever you are, we hope that this will provide a simple explanation of who we are and how we operate.  Church membership is a privilege and a responsibility, and we invite you all to play your part.
WHO ARE WE?
We are a parish of over 9,000 people, with three churches dating from early medieval times. Originally we were three separate parishes, each with its own church and vicar, but since 1992 we have been a single entity: The Parish of Aldingbourne, Barnham and Eastergate.  Anyone living within the parish can be married at the church of their choice, and anyone wishing their child to be baptized can likewise choose where they would like the baptism to take place.  Our parish boundaries stretch from Slindon Woods in the north to Bognor golf course in the south, and from Tangmere Airfield in the west to Barnham Windmill in the east.  We are a parish of great diversity, with a history stretching back to the time of St Wilfrid (681) who was granted land at Aldingbourne by Caedwalla, the King of Wessex.
Our three churches are used in complementary ways, and we try to provide a balance of worship centred on the Eucharist (Holy Communion).

We are strongly committed to including all ages in our worship, and many children attend our family services.  We have a large number of regular church attenders - some weekly, some monthly, some less frequently - and we value their involvement.

We recognize that Sunday is a busy day for many people and that church has to take its place alongside other important family activities.
On an average Sunday our total congregation is around 150, and we are served by a ministry team who lead the worship in our three churches.  The team consists of three parish priests (Fr Simon and Fr Tony and Rev. Sheila), two Readers (Gordon Collins and Maureen Smith a pastoral assistant (Bradley Smith), and honorary clergy (the Revd Dr Maurice Cochlin, the Revd Michael Collis, the Revd Canon Jillian Cossar, the Revd Ian Gibson, the Revd Jan Appleby and the Very Revd John Treadgold).
