Meet our new rector!
After a long vacancy, we are pleased to announce the appointment of
The Reverend Canon Paul Richard Armstead
as our new Rector.
Statement from Fr Paul
Sunday 8th August 2021
I am so delighted that we have been able to announce the exciting news that you will soon have a new Rector for the Parish of Aldingbourne, Barnham and Eastergate and I am delighted and excited that Bishop Martin has invited me to take up this ministry.
For the last nearly ten years I have been just down the coast, at the far end of the Portsmouth Arundel Canal in fact, as Vicar of St James, Milton, in the Diocese of Portsmouth and previously Assistant Curate at St Matthew’s. Northampton. During my time in Portsmouth I was made an Honorary Canon of St George’s Cathedral, Ho, Ghana.
I am greatly looking forward to joining your community, walking alongside, getting to know you all, listening, sharing, worshipping, laughing, learning, praying and having fun. I am sure that there is more that I and you could add to that list and indeed we will.
I will be praying for you all over the weeks ahead and hope that you might do the same for me and the parish of Milton.
With my love and prayers
Fr Paul was born in 1963. He attended Oxford Polytechnic and in 1985 receiving his BA. Fr Paul was ordained Deacon in 2008 and Priest in 2009. He attended St Stephen's House theological college, Oxford.
Fr Paul served his curacy at St Matthew, Northampton, in the Diocese of Peterborough from 2008 - 2012, then as curate of Holy Spirit, Southsea and Priest-in-Charge of St James', Milton, Diocese of Portsmouth from 2012.
He was made an Honorary Canon of St Georges' Cathedral, Ho, Ghana, West Africa in 2018.
In 2019 Fr Paul became an Associate Area Dean of Portsmouth Deanery.
The date of Fr Paul's licensing is still to be confirmed, but it is expected to be in late October early November.
Fr Paul will be introducing himself more over the coming months with letters on the website, Parish News and Contact.
We assure Fr Paul of our prayers and good wishes as he prepares to move to ABE, and St James', Milton, as the community prepares for a vacancy.
